FAQ
Is a pilot’s license required to fly the Mosquito XE/XEL?
The Mosquito design falls in the U.S ultra-light category and so no license is required to fly the Mosquito in the United States. Other countries may have different regulations for light helicopters. Consult your local aviation authorities. Proper training is absolutely essential prior to flying any aircraft
Is a certificate of airworthiness required to fly the Mosquito?
The Mosquito prototype has received an amateur-built certificate of airworthiness in Canada. However as a U.S. ultra-light no certificate is required in the U.S. Builders in other countries should consult their local aviation authorities.
How can the float equipped Mosquito XEL still be a regulation ultra-light?
The FAA has increased the maximum aircraft weight for a float equipped ultra-light by 60 lbs to account for the extra weight of the floats. The 312 lb empty weight of the XEL still qualifies for the ultra-light category!
Are Helicopters difficult to fly?
Helicopters are not difficult to fly but training is essential for pilot safety. We strongly recommend to all owners to receive a minimum of 10 hours training in a helicopter.
What, if the Mosquito engine quits during fly?
The Mosquito is a fully conventional helicopter in every way. It is capable of autorotation like any commercial helicopter.
In what form is the Mosquito sold?
The Mosquito is provided in kit form. All materials are provided including laser formed frame parts, machined parts, instruments (Rotor/Engine Tach, redundant digital engine tach with hour meter, dual EGT/CHT, Airspeed Indicator), rotor blades and engine.
What is required to construct the Mosquito?
Standard shop tools are required to cut and form some of the simple frame and control parts and for bolt and rivet assembly. A small amount of welding is required on the exhaust system.
How long will it take to build a Mosquito Helicopter from kit?
Approximately, 200 hours or less depending on skill level. The primary work of the builder will be fabrication of some of the simple frame and control parts and then assembling the frame using the factory provided parts and fabricated parts. Once the frame is complete the remaining work will be assembling the working components of the helicopter to the frame. The rotor shaft assembly, Sprague clutch, gear boxes and rotor blades are provided preassembled.
Is construction assistance provided?
A comprehensive assembly manual is provided along with a full set of part and assembly drawings as well as exploded view drawings. Builder assistance can be provided by phone or email.
